Manufacturer: Celon Labs
Pharmaceutical name: Chlorambucil
Pack: 30 pills (2 mg)
Chlorambucil serves as the primary active ingredient found in Celkeran. It is categorized as an alkylating chemotherapy agent. This medication is utilized for cancer treatment, particularly chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It acts by inhibiting the growth and proliferation of cancer cells within the body.
Celkeran is prescribed for various cancers and other medical conditions, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), Hodgkin’s disease, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, as well as breast, ovarian, and testicular cancer, Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia, thrombocythemia, and choriocarcinoma. It can be administered to both adults and children.
The formulation of Celkeran includes Chlorambucil and falls under the category of cytotoxic drugs, commonly referred to as chemotherapy. In cancer, specific cells in the body proliferate too rapidly. Chemotherapy agents like chlorambucil function by hindering cell growth and division, thereby decreasing the number of cancer cells produced by the body and facilitating cancer treatment.
Avoid taking this medication if you: are allergic to Chlorambucil or any other component of Celkeran; are pregnant or planning to become pregnant soon; or are currently breastfeeding.
Inform your doctor if you: have recently undergone radiotherapy or chemotherapy; have nephrotic syndrome, a kidney ailment; have epilepsy, seizures, or any psychiatric disorder; or have any liver or kidney issues.
The dosage is determined by factors such as your age, weight, medical condition, and response to the treatment, so your doctor will establish the appropriate dose. Take the medication exactly as prescribed; do not replace one 2 mg tablet with two 1 mg tablets.
It is typically advised to take Celkeran daily on an empty stomach. The tablet should be swallowed with a glass of water. Follow your doctor's instructions precisely and do not break or chew the tablet. Continue taking the medication until you have completed the prescribed course, and do not alter the dosage or stop taking it just because you feel better. If you overdose, seek emergency medical care or call your doctor right away. If you forget a dose of Celkeran, take it as soon as you remember, but do not take it if the time for the next dose is approaching. Taking multiple doses closely together can lead to excessive medication in your system, which may be harmful.
Common side effects of this medication include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, mouth ulcers, and rashes.
If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, contact your doctor immediately. Celkeran can, in rare cases, lead to severe side effects such as jaundice, seizures or convulsions, decreased white blood cell and platelet counts, easy bruising, unusual bleeding, rapid heartbeat, difficulty concentrating, shortness of breath, and unexplained weight loss.
Do not share Celkeran with anyone else, even if their symptoms resemble yours. Avoid using Celkeran for any other condition without consulting your doctor. Should you feel unwell after completing your prescribed medication, contact your doctor without delay. Store Celkeran at room temperature and do not freeze it.
